About the Course
This course, Study the Bible Like a Pro, was originally designed to help the small group leaders of my church (LifePark Church, in Mount Pleasant SC) learn how to become better interpreters of God’s Word. However, while developing this course, I also intentionally designed it for any Christ-follower or pastor or church leader who’s interested in learning how to become a more responsible interpreter of their Bible.
The phrase, “Like a Pro,” refers to those who serve the Lord in a full-time capacity (pastors, priests, teachers, etc.). In other words, this course was designed to teach you how those of us who actually have to study the Bible to prepare messages and Bible studies actually study the Bible (rather than give you a bunch of traditional Bible Study methods that a lot of books talk about but most of the pastors I know don’t practice or have time for). So, if you’re interested in learning how the pro’s do it, you’ll love this course!
About Your Teacher
My name is Bruce D. Johnson and while I’m currently the President of a business growth coaching and consulting company (Wired To Grow), I previously served as the founding pastor of a church outside of Washington D.C. that I started with two families that grew to two thousand people and $2.7M in my final year there (2005). In addition, I served on the national board of the Evangelical Free Church of America, graduated with honors from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (with my M.Div) and served on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ at Michigan State University (and received my BBA in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison).
Previous to becoming a Christian in the summer of 1979, I grew up as an atheist and was convinced that Christians manipulated the Bible to make it say whatever they wanted it to say. Which is why, once I became a Christian, I began to diligently study the Bible to make sure I didn’t do that. That desire led me to become an ardent student of hermeneutics (the principles of interpretation) and that lifelong quest is what led to this course. Whether you’ve never taken a course on Bible study or you’ve gone to seminary, there is plenty in here for you.
As for my personal life, my wife, Jacquie, and I have been married for 32 years. We have two daughters, Chelsea and Brooke, who are now both married (to David and Sam, respectively). And Brooke and Sam recently gave birth to our first grandchild, Shepherd James. After 23 years in the DC Metro region, Jacquie and I moved to Mount Pleasant, SC in the summer of 2012 and now call that home.
